die "Lavabombe" löste sich im Jahre 1969 bei Sprengarbeiten im Steinbruch Wartgesberg aus halber Höhe der Bruchwand. Mit einem Gewicht von über 120 Tonnen, 5m Höhe und 4m Breite dokumentiert dieses Gebilde ein eindrucksvolles und einmaliges Zeugnis frührerer vulkanischer Tätigkeit. Im Winter 1980/81 wurde die Lavabombe vom Fundort mit schweren Raupen und Baggern auf einer dicken Eisenplatte über tiefgefrorenen Schnee transportiert. Dieses kuriose Gebilde ist offensichtlich dadurch entstanden, dass während der Vulkantätigkeit ein Basaltbrocken mehrfach in die glühende Magma zurückgerollt ist, und wie ein Schneeball dadurch an Umfang gewonnen hat, bevor er endgültig auskühlte.
the "lavabomb" fell out of the quarry wall at Wartgesberg during blasting works in 1969. It weighs over 120 tons, is about 16,5ft high and 13.15ft wide and is a document of an impressive and unique volcanic activity. In the winter 1980/81 the lavabomb was transported by heavy plants on a thick metal sheet over frozen snow. This strange object resulted obviously from the fact that during the volcanic activity a basalt boulder rolled back several times into the glowing magma, and so growed like a snowball before it cooled down finally.
